Overburdened court system strained by new wave of migrants

Record backlogs increase in the immigration court systems as a result of new wave of immigrants. As a result the Obama administration and Congress are debating proposals to hire more judges or eliminating the requirement of hearings, which can take anywhere from months to years to take place.

Mexican asylum applicants face low grant rates compared to applicants from other nationalities. Despite being in top 10 of nationalities granted asylum, their grant rate was significantly lower, despite the violence and political terror that occurs in Mexico.
