Preparing for the potential end of temporary protected status and deferred enforced departure

Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, and Deferred Enforced Departure, or DED, are immigration programs that provide work permits and protection from deportation. The Trump administration announced it would end TPS for El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Sudan and Yemen, in addition to DED for Liberia. Advocates challenged these terminations and the courts are currently deciding whether or when these programs will end. As there is no certainty regarding the continued existence of these programs over the next few years, it is important for immigrants with TPS and DED to prepare for the potential end of these programs.
